Renault will be bringing two race-prepped Duster vehicles to next year's challenging Dakar Rally to be held in South America and, while tearing up the landscape in an urban-friendly, compact SUV might not seem to be the best of ideas, there is a method to their madness.
The French carmaker, in fact, will take on the gruesome sands of South America with two heavily modified vehicles shelled in the body of a Duster. Underneath, the car in question is a completely different animal: powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox, the car puts out over 300PS of power. Besides 4WD, other additions include a heavy duty limited slip differential, beefed-up brakes and a completely different set of springs.
The 2013 edition of the Dakar rally - widely known as one of the most challenging rallies in the world of motorsports, will be kicked off in South America. Renault will be seen participating with two heavily Dakar-ready Dusters with two crew members in each vehicle.
